Thoughts and Opinions:

“Text is simple. It doesn’t require or desire for us to turn it into an unconventional form of entertainment” –Gachter

“There’s so much on the Internet, I believe things like images, headings, videos, etc. are put on there so that people can look over things much faster and effectively.” -Strittm

“Society is obsessed with the next big thing and always will be until technology hits it’s apex; which may never happen.” –Batin

Discussion Questions:

 Tiffany Zerby: “Connecting vs. Separating”
Q: “It made me wonder if the separate pieces of technology that we purchase are necessary, or if each one is just another middle man distancing us from the experience itself?”

SM Gacheter: “Basic Materials For An Advanced Generation”
Q: “Do I conform and just accept the fact that material possessions are seemingly what defines us, or do I repulse a society that has apparently based ‘self worth’ entirely on what we own?”

Connor Batin: “TMI: How Much Technology has Engulfed Our Lives.”
Q: “Can the evolution of text and the entertainment that it brings to society present a hazard?” Ex. Texting and driving, video games: no room for your own imagination

Mike Secret: “Overstuffed”
Instead of having an important face-to-face conversation with a friend, we can now have a text conversation where every word can be analyzed and reviewed before it’s sent.
Q: “Do we lose crucial ‘stuff’ by replacing it with easier, fluffier conversation?”

Lauren Sobo: “Fame Game”
Q: Entertainment might be a bunch of fluff, but what else are we supposed to do?

Ashley Reyonds: “The History of Text”
When I think about the history of text, I remember my parents typing Christmas letters on a typewriter, and I remember trying to sneak handwritten notes to friends in elementary school. I remember using the library as my main source of information and thinking that PowerPoint and Word Art were the coolest ways to convey information. And now that there is so much more information to be conveyed, I see that text is finding new ways to present it––and because I know now that text has a history, I see that it also has a future.
Q: ”What’s Next for Text?
