Week 1 detailed schedule

I will not hold office hours on Monday, 1/12. I will have my regular office hours on Tuesday, 1/13. If you would like to visit those office hours for your first required hangout, you can find information about joining Google Plus here. The best time to do this will be during my office hours on Tuesday from 10-11:30. If you are unavailable then, contact me via email to schedule an alternative time for us to meet.

Before 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16:

  • Register for an account on this site so you can access the forums. I will have to give you permission to post to the course forums, so when you register, be sure to use your real name somewhere in your profile so I know who you are, and be sure to register early so you will have time to add your first posts to the forum before the deadline on Friday.
  • Purchase all the required course texts.
    • If you will not be able to meet this requirement—or any of the other course requirements described in the syllabus (see below) before the deadline above, please contact me prior to this deadline to discuss this issue.
    • You should only buy Blown to Bits if you want to own a physical copy. The book is available as a free download here.
  • After you complete the readings listed on the schedule for Jan. 12-16, create two short posts on the forum.
    • Post at least one question that you have about the syllabus or the course itself as a topic to the Syllabus and course site questions forum. You may ask as many questions as you like, but do not duplicate questions that have already been asked by another student.
    • Find the “Week 1: Introductions” topic on the the weekly discussion forum. Add a reply to this topic introducing yourself and explaining what you hope to get out of the course.
