We are living in the age of the international internet overload of information. Every second information is constantly spreading like fire all around us burning understanding of the world and its secrets into our brains. I scream for the world to stop spinning for one second so I can relax from the explosion of information. With this information come great responsibility to utilize all aspects of life. To make educated actions to improve quality of life. That is everyones ultimate goal right? To improve quality of life to make life easier.
PRODUCTS! what has happened to quality??? Lanham, The Economics of Attention, ch. 1 has some very interesting topics. We are obsessed with old items. I know for certain i love old items. Nothing is more amazing than a record player, or an old bottle of Dom Perrigon, or both at the same time. I wondered why is everyone so obsessed with old items. QUALITY! The quality of older items is so much better than new items from china and taiwan. People used to have a “life time quality” now we pay workers 2 dollars a day to put together a crappy looking cd player and we call it innovation and industrialization. What are the benefits to having these crappy made items? Well they are always in abundance. I swear if you want a guitar there are tons of them everywhere and in abundance with different colors and tones. Lanham suggests that commercialism and growth also brings an expansion of the arts. Truthfully I disagree. I think its the mass production of crappy cars and roads that has helped us in the pursuit of our love for the arts.
The production of words and images has thankfully in my opinion not been in a downfall like our products. With the help of digital imaging and the internet we have made strides in creating a true art form that everyone can admire. I am a photographer and with the help of photoshop CS5 my options are endless in altering and changing my photo. Digital imaging can make literature not linear and always changing.
