Chapter 7 in “Blown to Bits” by Harvey Lewis, Ken Leeden, and Hal Abelson discusses the possibilities of regulation in chat rooms, video feed, websites, and ect to eliminate unwanted information from children. I believe regulation is not the answer. I feel that good parenting can easily prevent this problem. Instead of having the government regulate why not have this solved in the comfort of our own homes. Let the parents put restrictions to the sites the children can view and browse. There are many to block websites that are not for children’s eyes. Learning How to Block Websites can be very beneficial for parents who want to regulate what their children view. The internet is open to all communication even the bad communication. As much as I wish violence, filthy, and harassing sites were not available I still feel that regulation by the government is not right. In Chapter 8 in “Blown to Bits” the authors discuss the regulation of television and radio. I feel that the FCC should have limited power and should not be able to limit what is played. We as humans choose what we want to watch and listen too. If I want to watch a South Park episode that has cuss words I should be able to watch it without it being bleeped out. With children watching shows I again feel it is the parents or “guardians” responsibility to regulate what a child watches. Not being regulated on what we say or think is what makes the USA special. We have the right to say anything we want and I feel the same freedom should be given on what we watch and listen too.
