The readings for this week, I found to be extremely difficult to get through due to the fact that my strong points aren’t particularly in philosophy nor are my abstract thinking skills up to par. I will however give it a shot in relating to the readings to the best of my ability.
As for Borges “The Library of Babel” a metaphor for the internet and all it has to offer, in relating to the unlimited amounts of uses and information available similar to that of the uses of a library. There are unlimited books within the walls of library just like the unlimited web pages on the internet.
I found it particularly interesting about taking different paths as users. I first thought of the internet with the several different ways there is to search for information you need, such as search engines, databases, etc… Then I began to think about the library and the different routes around shelves one would or could take to find the book with the information they need in it. However, they could use computer to find the exact location of that book or the index dewey decimal system to find the book. Regardless, everyone chooses their path to information.
Im not exactly sure how to relate all of this to multimedia writing, nor am I sure I got anything out of the readings. Hopefully discussions will sum it all up and next weeks readings I can find more in and relate more to the class.
