Talk’n

I chose to watch instead of read, I feel it got the point across more thoroughly. I’m a fan of Greg Gillis’s (Girl Talk) music and have at one point thrown the idea of copyright infringement around in my head. I never got to the bottom of it, or exhausted any possibilities … just kept listening to his mixes, exhausted them even. RiP! did a proper job to making ends meet. Gillis explained in an interview with examples of his day job, that aspects of our culture/life could make a huge societal advancement tomorrow if it weren’t for patents. Patents protect ideas, which at some point are able to be used as a nucleus for another bigger idea resulting in an advancement. Say, new innovation for cancer treatment … is being sealed off due to a personality wanting to maintain the originality of his own idea. I’m sure you could wave any word at that said person with words of greed, selfishness, in-humane, etc, but it wont stop the transfer and growth of funds accumulated.

The act Radiohead committed with their release of Internet based web content was incredible to me. It was sheer brilliance. What happened in reaction to their brilliant idea? More brilliance! Remixes of their album, audio and visual, were all sick! A group of said 64 members, coming together to create an animated series? If one were to need proof of a positive outcome of the editing the rules of copyright infringement, there’s one.

I’d love to cover everything from the movie, it was quite interesting and a very well made visual. Everyone should watch it. I’d put a link to watch it for free, but then I’d probably making a sue-able move. Ha.
