I appreciated this read by D.Rushkoff, it was nice to change spectrums on the view of media usage for once. Many probably don’t share the same liking as myself when speaking in terms of code and production of those things everyone interacts with online. Taking computer programming in high school opened that perspective, and it’s actually quite incredible. Some may say they don’t know how to take and digest information from raw code, but in actuality, raw code can tell you just as much as the finished product with the help of a little searching. Besides, I’m sure everyone’s been hunched over a desktop cutting and pasting codes into their Myspace bio’s with the ‘<, >’ before and after to change layout color. Don’t lie.
One may also say that an individual today is not worried about how something is made, just worried about how available that something is to obtain. Would that same individual automatically acknowledge how available that something is for them, and anyone else with the same impulsive thought or need? I guess that would depend on the ego? Whatever.
It’s wild how open the information market is though. I found myself replaying the same question in a stream line inside of my head while reading this text asking ‘How stupid would society be if information had a price?’. The answers obvious, but the guts of the topic and supporting facts make it a headache … because of how stupid it would be. Context would remain healthy though, that’s for sure. But who needs context anymore with new things being recognized every day? Have to make room somehow.
