I love the idea that video games can help develop and nurture education. As a constant player of strategy based games I feel that my problem solving has increased immensely. If video games are designed specifically for education everyone can have fun learning. Being stuck in a classroom for hours on end is daunting. With video games as an alternative to some of classroom time people will look forward to learning. Games such as Zelda and fallout provide a learning experience for everyone who plays them. Strategizing and utilizing your players experience in these games help nurture an understanding of how to use your characters strength.
Ebert discusses how video games are not an art form. This statement is in my opinion ridiculous. Obviously Ebert has never played Skyrim or Halo. Hours and Hours of effort are put into making these games visually stunning. What is art anyway? Isn’t art something you put an effort into to create something great. I would say any business in a way is an art form. The way you conduct the business and create profit is superb. So Ebert obviously does not understand the term art because video games are not only art but the best of the best art.
The world needs more video games. We live in a stressful world with lots to worry about it. Everyone should take an hour out of their day and enjoy a video game. It would be educational and beneficial for our health. Video games are an amazing art form that should be recognized as such.
“The world needs more video games.” I think you’re going to get that wish :)
