Steven Johnson brought very good points about the world of Twitter and social media of the 21st century. Most of my friends are against Twitter and “don’t understand” why I have one. It doesn’t sound to appealing when you “hear about this new service that lets you send 140-character updates to your FOLLOWERS” (S. Johnson). Twitter was hard to get used to at first, I did not understand how to use hash tags, and the importance of tweeting as much as you can to build a bigger following. It was at first just a Facebook rip off to me…. Now almost a year later of using my Twitter account I couldn’t be more satisfied for a plethora of reasons. Twitter gives you the scoop on everything. When WVU won the orange bowl, I wanted to hear what the fans had to say, it was four buttons away….. #WVU
Twitter opens up a world of advertising and promotion without the use of market research, which is what makes Twitter such a success. People follow who they want to follow…. If Lebron James tells his followers he is wearing a new brand of clothing and is at a certain restaurant, the business will boom. Twitter opens up a new world of advertising and promotions, with a side gig of fun and input, with no holding back. Twitter opens up a world to a million doors. Even if they are only 140 word maximum tweets, they alert society to news and everyday updates that revolutionize the world of social media.
