Some More Fluff and Stuff

The readings we had to do for class got me thinking about a lot of things. What I was particularly interested in was Lanham’s idea in the fact that we have so much knowledge.  He even stats that “we’re drowning in information” because there’s so much of it.  I agree with him in some ways because yes, there is a lot of information out there.  There’s so much that it’s hard for all of us to filter everything that comes in.  I can see how we are drowning in information, but I think that we as human beings have a desire for information; that’s why there’s so much of it.  We have the technology now that lets us gain access to the knowledge we want with the push of a button.

Even though Lanham thinks there is a lot of information out there, I do agree with him in the sense that its hard to filter out what you want or don’t want sometimes.  The Tufte reading was one that I think showed different ways of taking tons of information and combining it together to navigate through it much more easily.  This reading had pictures and images of very complex things that gave you a chart to use to navigate through the sketches.  In a way, I feel like information is designed in a way so that we can work our way through it.

There’s so much on the Internet, I believe things like images, headings, videos, etc. are put on there so that people can look over things much faster and effectively.  The Web incorporates all the ideals from the readings in Ch. 3 to make things more pleasing to see.  I feel that in a way pages are put together this way because all of use read so much online every day.  Having animations, unique quotes, or pictures makes the page more ascetically pleasing to the eye and more interesting to read.
